Evolution H/T From Cooper Targets CUVs, SUVs, and Pickups

M-Cooper-Evolution-HT-1-1.jpg

As the market for CUVs, SUVs and pickups continues to expand, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is updating its product lineup with the new Evolution H/T all season highway tire. It replaces the Discoverer H/T.

Cooper says the Evolution H/T competes at a mid-range price point, and offers grip, stability and comfort. It features updated technology compared to the Discoverer H/T and covers 28 tire sizes for the CUV, SUV and light duty pickup truck market.
Cooper says the Evolution H/T include StabilEdge technology for enhanced handling and dry tracking stability, and 3D Micro-Gauge siping to maintain wet traction and superior handling. The tire also includes a silica tread compound and tread profile that provide even wear and long tread life. The new tire carries a 60,000 mile warranty.

“The market for SUVs, CUVs and pickups continues to expand rapidly,” says Scott Jamieson, director of product management for North America. “Being responsive to what is happening in the market is a commitment we take seriously at Cooper to help our dealers grow their businesses and help us succeed along with them. This commitment calls for Cooper to adapt our product offerings and evolve our tire lines and size ranges on an ongoing basis.

“The new Cooper Evolution H/T is a great example of offering a tire that responds to the needs of a growing market, while also providing a product with advanced technology and great performance at a price point that hits a sweet spot in that market. We’re excited about this tire and what it will bring to our dealers in terms of a high quality, affordable new option for their SUV, CUV and pickup truck customers.”

To support the introduction of the Evolution H/T, Cooper has provided dealers with a launch kit, and soon will host a customer webinar to answer product questions in realtime. Later this month, Cooper also will provide e-training for dealers on the tire’s features and benefits.

Toyo Extends Load Carry Capacity for Open Country

M-F-Load-Range-OpenCountryMT01-1.jpgToyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. is adding F-load range tires to the brand’s Open Country line of light truck products to meet the needs of late model truck owners and dealers.

Toyo is adding F-load tires to its Open Country lineup, including nine size options for the Open Country M/T, pictured.
Toyo is adding F-load tires to its Open Country lineup, including nine size options for the Open Country M/T, pictured.
The F-load tires are available in the Open Country M/T; Open Country R/T; and Open Country A/T II tires, including sizes 35×12.50R20LT, 33X12.50R18LT and 37X12.50R22LT.
F-load range tires allow for higher carrying capacity at a higher inflation pressure compared to tires of the same size with an E-load range. These new tires address the increase in payload and towing capacity of today’s trucks, giving owners the freedom to personalize the look and style of their vehicles with a tire that is properly load rated.

“At Toyo Tires we are committed to creating innovative products and solutions to address the needs and expectations of the off-road community and specialty dealers,” says Conrad Galamgam, senior director of product planning for Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “These new F-load range tires enable truck owners to get the tire performance and look they desire, while meeting or exceeding the load-carrying requirements of their trucks.”

Here’s a breakdown of the styles and sizes available in the new F-load range (including one new size coming in the Open Country M/T).

Toyo offers this 6-point checklist for tire replacement and load-carrying capacity:

Confirm that the load-carrying capacity is greater than or equal to the load carrying capacity of the OE tire size at the pressure indicated on the vehicle Tire Information Placard.
Carefully note any differences between recommendations for front and rear axle positions regarding the tire size and/ or inflation pressure.
The speed rating must be equal to or greater than what is specified by the vehicle manufacturer if the speed capability of the vehicle is to be maintained.
Tires should be mounted on approved wheel widths. If changing tire sizes, check to make sure the wheel has adequate load and inflation pressure capacity.
Body and chassis clearance must be checked on the vehicle’s front and rear axles.
Proper spacing between dual tires is necessary for optimum tire performance. If chains are used, particular care must be taken to assure adequate clearance between loaded tires to avoid damage from the chains. The allowable outside diameter difference between a tire and its dual mate is 1/4” (6.4 mm) for light truck tires.

Goodyear Recalls 1,650 Light Truck Tires

M-Goodyear-blimp-BBMOffice-2-15

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling certain G399A LHS Fuel Max truck tires, size 295/75R22.5 LRG, manufactured Jan. 24, 2016, to May 28, 2016. The potential number of units affected is 1,650.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Campaign ID Number for the recall is 16T010.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation says that due to an anomaly during the curing press set-up operation, incomplete adhesion between the tread and the top belt may have occurred. “Incomplete adhesion may result in tread separation of the tire while in use, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Goodyear will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased the tires, as well as those who purchased the steer tires as replacement equipment. The vehicle manufacturers will notify their owners.

Dealers will replace the affected tires with similar tires free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin Oct. 15, 2016. Owners may contact Goodyear customer service at (800) 592-3267.

rubber_manufacturers_association

Light truck tire shipments will carry the day this year, according to the latest forecast from the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA).

“The light truck tire segment is expecting solid growth in both original equipment and replacement tire shipments,” says the RMA. They break out as follows, with the percent change based on the numbers provided:

Estimated 2016 tire shipments in the U.S. (in millions of units)

LT shipments 2015 2016 % change

Replacement 29.1 30.8 5.8%

Original equipment 4.4 4.8 9.1%

Total 33.5 35.6 6.2%

* Passenger tires: Replacement shipments (205 million) are projected to decrease by 0.5%, while OE shipments (49.8 million) are expected to see only a very slight increase.

* Truck tires: Replacement shipments (18.5 million) are projected to increase by 3.3%, while OE shipments (5.3 million) are expected to decrease by 14.5%. Total truck tire shipments are expected to decrease by 1.2%.

The RMA says total U.S. tire shipments are projected to grow slightly, from 313.5 million units to 314.1 million units, or 0.2%.

Nitto Unveils New Ridge Grappler LT Tire

M-NittoRidgeGrapplerLightTruckTireCloseup-LR-2.jpg

Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc. has added the Ridge Grappler to its Grappler line of light truck tires. Situated between the Nitto Trail Grappler mud terrain and the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 all terrain, the Ridge will be available in 30 sizes.

Nitto says the Ridge Grappler uses of a host of innovative technologies to make it the perfect balance between an off-road capable tire and a comfortable, quiet all-terrain tire.

Setting the Ridge Grappler apart is its dynamic hybrid tread pattern. To minimize the highway hum inherent in most aggressive tread designs, the Ridge Grappler has noise-reducing variable-pitch tread blocks. The company says this design was created through the use of advanced sound equipment with the goal of creating a pattern that provides a quiet and smooth highway ride.

When taken off-road, the alternating shoulder grooves help to clear mud quickly while the Lateral Z grooves give more biting edges for traction, according to Nitto. Reinforced block foundations also add rigidity to reduce tread flex and the integrated stone ejectors work to reduce stone drilling and help protect the bottom of the groove.

The Ridge Grappler also is available in an F load range rating in select sizes, which allows for higher carrying capacity at a higher inflation pressure compared to an E load range size.

“The Ridge Grappler offers our truck customers the perfect balance between aggressive tread design, capable off-road performance, and day-to-day ride comfort,” says Alan Ngo, senior staff engineer. “The Ridge Grappler is packed with exciting new technology that makes it one of the most capable and livable Grappler tires we’ve ever offered.”

The Ridge Grappler will be available in 30 sizes including fitments for Jeep Wranglers as well as 3/4 and 1-ton trucks and features two unique sidewall designs that lets drivers chose what look works best for their vehicle.

The new Ridge Grappler will be available starting in July 2016 with select sizes, and many more to follow throughout the year. A full size listing follows.

Kenda Adds New LT Tire to Klever Line

M-KendaKleverHTImage-LR-1.jpg

Kenda USA has added a value-priced light truck tire for highway driving to its Klever line. The new Kenda Klever H/T2 KR600 is available to order in 14 sizes with anticipated delivery in the third quarter.

The Klever H/T2 has a 50,000 mileage warranty for LTR sizes and a 60,000 mileage warranty for P-metric.

The KR600 features a computer optimized footprint for excellent wear and handling under multiple load conditions as well as strong shoulder blocks that enhance handling and cornering stability, according to Kenda. Snow sipes and increased lateral groove densities improve traction performance, and driving stability in wet and snow conditions and wide circumferential groove widths improves hydroplaning and wet traction.

The Klever H/T2 was developed at the new Kenda American Technical Center in Green, Ohio.

The highway tire is designed for light truck vehicle platforms and SUVs, complementing the recently introduced Klever S/T KR52 which is designed for higher speed-rated CUV and SUV vehicles.

“Kenda successfully benchmarked the Klever H/T2 against the top Tier 1 and Tier 2 tires to show our customers that value is truly providing a great tire for a good price,” says Brandon Stotsenburg, director of business development. “Dealers can confidently replace OE tires with the Klever H/T2.”

He says Kenda expects to expand the line over the next 18 months with additional LT and P-metric sizes to match 16- to 20-inch sizes in the segment.

The sizes available to order are:

* LT215/85R16;
* LT225/75R16;
* LT235/80R17;
* LT235/85R16;

Yokohama Tire to Release Geolandar AT-S Tires

Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) has introduced the Geolandar A/T G015 in 60 sizes with a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty for P/E-metric sizes and 50,000-mile warranty for LT-metric sizes.
M-tire1LR-1
YTC plans to add 17 more sizes to the line by the end of 2016. All sizes will be certified for severe snow conditions and stamped with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol. The new tire replaces the Geolandar AT-S.

Dealers will find the price of the new tire comparable to the tire it replaces, the Geolandar AT-S. The similar pricing is a statement of the new tire’s value, according to Bob Abram, product planning manager.

“The Geolandar A/T G015 delivers outstanding traction in any condition, both on road and off,” says Andrew Briggs, senior director of tire business planning, product planning and sales operations. “It’s the toughest and most versatile Geolandar yet and it’s built to last, providing some of the best mileage in the industry.”

Michelin’s New Light Truck Tire the Defender LTX

The newest tire in Michelin North America Inc.’s fleet isn’t designed to be an original equipment star. But that’s not to say the tire manufacturer isn’t expecting big things from the Defender LTX M/S. Michelin believes the Defender LTX is destined to become its top selling light truck tire — in part because it’s replacing the company’s current No. 1 LT tire.
M-Michelin-Defender-LTX-45-leftLR-1
The Defender LTX is a light truck product that comes from melding the long-lasting traits of Michelin’s successful three-year-old Defender passenger line with its most popular light truck tire, the LTX M/S2. Using the tread pattern and depth of the LTX M/S2, amping it up with Evertread compounding, and ensuring the long-lasting wear of the Defender line, the new Defender LTX offers the best of all worlds.

Michelin is marketing the Defender LTX as the answer to that complaint with two key words: “Stronger. Longer.” Peters says the company’s test data shows the new compound alone extends this tire’s life by 10% compared to the LTX M/S2.

The LT sizes carry a 50,000-mile warranty, and that’s less coverage than the current LTX M/S2 offers. Roll out of the first 45 sizes of the Defender LTX begins Aug. 1 and will continue through November in the United States. The next 26 sizes are coming in June 2016.

Toyo Unveils Open Country A/T II Which won OE on Ram 1500 Rebel

2015-Ram-1500-Rebel-129-876x5351-626x382
Toyo Tire USA Corp. launched a new all-terrain tire for truck and SUV owners – the Toyo Open Country A/T II.

The tiremaker said the tire “offers over 40% more treadlife than the leading competitors, exceptional all-season performance, an aggressive new tread design, and a quiet ride.”

The Open Country A/T II comes with a 65,000-mile warranty for P-metric and Euro-metric sizes, and a 50,000-mile warranty for LT-metric and flotation sizes. The tire also qualifies for Toyo’s No Regrets 45-day, 500-mile trial offer.

“Our goal was to create the toughest, longest lasting all-terrain tire on the market,” said Fardad Niknam, Toyo’s senior director of product planning and technical services. “When independent third-party test results showed the Open Country A/T II delivering over 40% longer treadlife than leading competitors, we knew we had a special all-terrain tire.“

Toyo said that “nearly 100 different size combinations are available,” ranging from 15- to 20-inch wheel diameters, including deep tread “extreme sizes” for enthusiasts.

Toyo Tire USA Corp.’s Open Country A/T II will shoe the new Ram 1500 Rebel pickup. Additionally, the tire’s tread design will be embossed on both the front and rear passenger seats.

The truck will be outfitted with the tire in LT285/70R17.

The tire features a wear-resistant tread compound as well as an optimized tread design to deliver on and off the road traction, Toyo said.
