Japanese tiremaker Toyo is recalling almost 5,000 tires in the United States sold under the Toyo and Nitto brands for a manufacturing defect in the rubber compound. These tires are nearly brand new, having been manufactured in the end of September 2010. This problem could cause the tread to separate, leading to a tire blowout, and a crash.
The tires come in a variety of model names and sizes and types, including all-terrain tires and all-season tires for light trucks and car-based sport-utility vehicles. For more information on which tires are subject to the recall, see the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Owners may contact Toyo at 1-800-442-8696 or Nitto at 1-888-529-8200.
