Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s tire manufacturing facility in Findlay, Ohio, has earned IS0 14001 environmental management system (EMS) certification.
“This certification demonstrates that Findlay plant personnel are dedicated to doing the right thing, which includes protecting the environment,” says Tom Wood, global environmental affairs director. “Along with certifications earned previously at other Cooper facilities, this achievement is evidence that Cooper people are committed to continually improving performance to make our operations more sustainable.”
The Findlay plant has the capacity to produce 22,000 consumer tires a day, according to Modern Tire Dealer‘s 2010 Facts Issue.
“We continually strive to improve in all aspects of our operations, and this certification demonstrates our ability to meet and exceed the most rigorous international standards,” says Findlay Plant Manager Jack Hamilton.
Four other Cooper facilities are also ISO 14001-certified: the Tall Timber Mold Operations facility in Findlay; the tire manufacturing facilities in Texarkana, Ark., and Tupelo, Miss.; and the Cooper Chengshan Tire joint venture facility in Rongchen City, People’s Republic of China.
First published in 1996 by the International Organization for Standardization — a body that sets standards in many businesses and technologies — the ISO 14001 standard specifies requirements for a facility’s environmental management system. Adhering to an EMS helps to minimize a facility’s impact on the environment through standardized processes such as regular performance audits.
